Sleeping problems are among the most frustrating. Sleep deprivation can harm your health, mood, and cognitive performance. Fortunately, you can improve your sleep. Taking the correct sleep pills before bed is one of many healthy practices you should consider.
Dietitian Mary Sabat recommended a few vitamins to improve sleep, stress, and mood. She recommended magnesium and L-theanine for insomniacs.
Sabat recommends magnesium before bed for improved sleep and lower stress. This vital mineral regulates sleep and mood. Magnesium also regulates mood-boosting neurotransmitters like serotonin and supports brain function, improving mood, tension, and relaxation. It's one of the best methods to relax before bed.
"The dosage can vary, but generally, a daily intake of 200-400 mg is considered safe for most individuals," Sabat says.
Another great supplement Sabat recommends before night is L-Theanine.
Green tea contains L-theanine, an amino acid. "It relaxes, calms, and improves sleep without causing daytime drowsiness," she says. This absence of drowsiness is a big advantage over melatonin, which causes daytime grogginess.
L-Theanine, like magnesium, boosts dopamine and serotonin production. Sabat says this supplement is often taken with caffeine "to offset its stimulating effects." She suggests 100-400 mg per day for these benefits.
